Description:  For the incredible promise and positive impact new AI technology can have on society, there also comes an equal measure of fear and trepidation – particularly when that technology is used by bad actors to further their aims.  A prime example is the use of deepfakes (manipulated or synthesized media content, such as images, videos, or audio, that appear to be authentic but are actually artificially generated) to trick and coerce consumers and business to send fraudulent transactions. Unfortunately, the issue is only accelerating – it is estimated that global deepfake fraud incidents increased 10x from 2022 to 2023.  In this panel session, we will dissect the sophisticated techniques these criminals use, ranging from synthetic identity fraud to intricate voice and video manipulations, underscoring the urgent need for innovative countermeasures. Central to our discussion is the proactive role of banks in detecting such fraudulent activities, with a special emphasis on leveraging their own AI-driven tools and educating customers about emerging threats.

Description:  While there is no shortage of cryptocurrency skeptics in the world – whether due to market volatility, views on applicability, association with criminal elements, or the countless dog memes – the underlying value of blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) to facilitate faster, more efficient, trustless transactions, has started to prove itself in definitive terms.  In this session, we will discuss three major types of digital assets, tokenized deposits, central bank digital currency (CBDCs), and stablecoins, that leverage elements of blockchain/DLT to create a new foundation for the financial system, while accounting for many of the hurdles that traditional cryptocurrencies present to everyday users.  We will discuss the comparative benefits, challenges, and risks associated with each, as well as inspiring, real-world progress being made by innovative players and consortiums across the financial ecosystem.
